What is Incontinence?

It’s when someone involuntarily urinates.  It’s fairly common in women over 60 years old.


An overactive bladder is different in that it causes a sudden and overwhelming need to urinate.


  • Inability to hold urine for a period of time
  • Mild wetting
  • Uncontrollable wetting


Urinary incontinence can be caused by:

  • Childbirth
  • Weight gain
  • Bladder irritation
  • Stress
  • Drug side effects
  • Pregnancy
  • Delirium
  • Vaginitis
  • Stool impaction
  • Urinary tract infection (UTI)


Treatment options include; medications, pelvic muscle exercise, and possibly implant of a medical device.
